I have come up with a short and simple questionnaire and searching for members of the LGBT community to assist me in learning more about the ways we tend to mislead others regarding our sexual orientation. You can help by anonymously filling out the questionnaire in a reply to my forum. Every reply will help the accuracy of the findings, and will hopefully shed light on why too often we are afraid to reveal our true selves. Thanks so much!
The Questionnaire
Sex/Gender:
Sexual Orientation:
Age:
Ethnicity:
1. Have you ever lied about your sexual orientation?
2. Have you ever lied about you sexual orientation in order to feel more accepted or to fit in?
3. Have you ever lied or withheld your sexual orientation to avoid an awkward social situation?
4. Have you ever lied about your sexual orientation because you thought you would be treated or viewed differently?
5. Have you ever lied or withheld your sexual orientation because you felt society would misjudge you?
6. Have you ever lied to a family member about your sexual orientation?
7. Would you be more likely to lie to a family member about your sexual orientation than to a friend?
8. Have you ever lied to a stranger about your sexual orientation?
9. Are you more comfortable revealing your sexual orientation to strangers?
10. Have you ever lied or withheld your sexual orientation in fear of being harmed?
11. How often do you lie about your sexual orientation?
12. How recently have you lied or withheld your sexual orientation?
13. Do you think society has created an environment that makes it difficult for LGBT to feel comfortable revealing their sexual orientation?
