Restoring Pride is committed to providing transitional housing to those members of the LGBTQ community who are homeless and suffering from addiction. We do this because everyone who suffers from homelessness and addiction deserves a chance to begin anew, as many times as it takes.
Our guiding principles affirm our commitment to ending homelessness among those members of the LGBTQ community who struggle with addiction. Those principles are:
1. This is a huge problem and a growing one that affects every tier of the LGBTQ community but one that is worth solving and we will solve it.
2. Our approach and commitment are based on our personal experiences of being homeless and suffering from addiction. This brings with it a unique understanding of what we must do.
3. We must and we will try new innovative solutions and approaches to addressing this challenge. The old ways aren’t working and we must think and act differently.
As we begin the push to open our first village in Oklahoma City in 2021, Chris and I are reminded daily of the scope of this undertaking as we watch friends, acquaintances, and people we don’t even know struggle with homelessness and addiction. We are also reminded every day of their gratitude that Chris and I, by establishing Restoring Pride, are taking bold action to provide our friends, and all LGBTQ people suffering from both of these afflictions, a safe, stable place to live. To get better and, to receive the help they need to start anew.
That in the end is why we do this, to give back to the LGBTQ community, our community. Join us and help us to end homelessness and tackle addiction among our sisters and brothers in the LGBTQ community. And make no mistake about it: with you behind us, we will prevail.
