This hits close to home... mainly because I LIVE IN THIS STATE... sadly. However this week Arkansas will announce if they are finally going to recognize same sex marriages. Hopefully the ruling will be in our favor. But I highly doubt it. Considering this was a thing up until recently. I will keep you all posted as I learn more! And if you learn anything about it, feel free to share!! ~Matt

Looks like it's legal in AR! Matt(squared) get your butts down to the courthouse and git 'er done! (You can ALWAYS do the fancy ceremony later) BUT MAKE IT LEGAL - NOW! Protect each other. Do I need to say Bridegroom??!! As someone who did it when the window was open in CA - I sleep WAAAAAAY better at night knowing my hubby and me are protected under CA law. Source

This makes me VERY excited!! However, knowing this state it will last all of 2 weeks. If that long. ~Matt Prepare now... get your ducks in a row. When it opens up be THERE. I mean this. Protect yourselves. It is a matter of not only the celebration of your love for each other (which I totally get you'd want to do it right), but the LEGAL aspect of you both standing up for one another is PARAMOUNT. I'd like to know you both are SAFE legally. Especially in a state like AR. All my best (but you (both) know that), W

Here is the interesting legal aspect -
From what my hubby tells me (and he is F'n BRILLIANT at legal analysis and writing) - the way the decision came down there really isn't a recourse for it to go to the feds. So the buck may actually stop right where it is. The ruling is VERY interesting in the way it is worded and how the rule of law should be applied in this case. However, we have the caveat that my hubby is not up to snuff on every aspect of family law in AR. But the standard rules of the law should apply.

Just now from The Huffington Post: Arkansas Clerk Issues 1st Gay Marriage License Link to article = www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/10/arkansas-gay-marriage-license_n_5301617.htmlAn Arkansas clerk issued the state's first gay marriage license on Saturday, marking the first such occasion in the South. In February, a federal judge ruled that Virginia must issue same-sex marriage licenses, but the state is still appealing her decision. That same week, Kentucky's ban on recognizing same-sex marriages performed out of state was struck down. Kentucky, however, is not obligated to issue licenses to same-sex couples. More from the Associated Press: Carroll County Deputy Clerk Jane Osborn issued a license Saturday morning to Kristin Seaton, 27, and Jennifer Rambo, 26, of Fort Smith. They had slept in a Ford Focus after arriving in Eureka Springs at 2 a.m. Saturday and were the first of about 10 couples to line up outside of the courthouse before it opened. When the license was issued, Rambo said, "Thank God." Seaton and Rambo, who have been together four years, then held a marriage ceremony on the courthouse steps. A woman in a rainbow dress officiated. Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza ruled Friday that Arkansas' 2004 voter-approved amendment to the state constitution violates the rights of gay couples. He didn't put his ruling on hold as some judges in other states have done. Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he would appeal the ruling and asked it be suspended during that process. No appeal had been filed as of Saturday morning when the license was issued. Arkansas' amendment was passed in 2004 with the overwhelming support of Arkansas voters. Piazza's ruling also overturned a 1997 state law banning gay marriage. In striking down the ban, Piazza wrote that it is "an unconstitutional attempt to narrow the definition of equality."
"The exclusion of a minority for no rational reason is a dangerous precedent," he said in his ruling [emphasis mine--misterc]. The U.S. Supreme Court last year ruled that a law forbidding the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages was unconstitutional. Since then, lower-court judges have repeatedly cited the decision when striking down some of the same-sex marriage bans that were enacted after Massachusetts started recognizing gay marriages in 2004. Federal judges have ruled against marriage bans in Michigan, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Texas, and ordered Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee to recognize same-sex marriages from other states. In all, according to gay-rights groups, more than 70 lawsuits seeking marriage equality are pending in about 30 states. Democratic attorneys general in several states -- including Virginia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Oregon and Kentucky -- have declined to defend same-sex marriage bans. Arkansas' ruling came a week after McDaniel became the first statewide elected official to announce he personally supports gay marriage rights. But he said he would continue to defend the constitutional ban in court. Aaron Sadler, McDaniel's spokesman, said Friday the attorney general sought the stay because "we know that questions about validity of certain actions will arise absent a stay." When I saw this article I thought INSTANTLY of the Matts! Congrats, Arkansas...and the Matts, of course!
P.S. A quote attributed to Judge Piazza by MSNBC: "I want to tell you I do support marriage equality and I do believe Arkansans should have the right to be equal in the eyes of the law.”
AMEN, BROTHER!
